A maintenance calendar for Toledo-area homes

• Late summer into early fall: book the furnace tune-up before the first cool night. It is a full heating tune-up and safety inspection, including a carbon monoxide check. This is also a good time to test your carbon monoxide detectors and replace their batteries.
• Through the heating season: check your filter regularly. A clogged filter is one of the most common causes of poor heat. If the furnace turns on and off over and over, or the house isn't getting warm, check that the thermostat is set to heat and that the furnace has power before you call.
• Spring: book the A/C tune-up before the first hot week. It is a full cooling tune-up, coil cleaning and system check.
• Humid summer weeks: if the house feels damp or muggy even with the air conditioner running, or you notice a musty smell, tell us. A dehumidifier, or a look at how the system is set up, may help.
• After a long summer: watch for warm spots, unusual sounds or longer run times. Those are early signs the system is working too hard.

A repair or diagnostic visit is $99. The technician finds the problem and gives you a repair quote before any work starts, and nothing is done until you say yes. VIP members pay no visit fee.

How often should my furnace and air conditioner be checked?

Once a year each: the furnace before winter and the air conditioner before summer. Each tune-up is $135. A VIP maintenance plan covers both visits every year with one payment.
