Brownstown has no ZIP code of its own, and addresses carry neighbors' town names. We serve the whole township for furnaces, air conditioning, heat pumps and water heaters. Phone (734) 384-3910 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week, or book online.

Newer housing than its neighbors
Brownstown has built more recently than its neighbors. The 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey counts about 12,800 homes in the township, with a median build year of 1994. About 37 percent were built in 2000 or later, including about 1,900 since 2010, and only about 10 percent are older than 1960. Seven in ten are detached single-family houses, and about one household in five rents.
Newer houses bring their own service list. High-efficiency furnaces vent through plastic pipe and drain water through a condensate line and, in many basements, a small pump; a clogged drain or a failed pump is a common no-heat call. Air conditioners from the early 2000s may still use the older refrigerant that is no longer made, which matters when one needs a major repair. In homes from the 1960s and 1970s, about a quarter of the township, the questions are the older ones: aging ducts and a furnace that may be on its second or third replacement.
Fuel, gas safety and power cuts
About 89 percent of Brownstown households heat with utility gas, about 8 percent with electricity, and nearly 2 percent with propane. If your house is on propane, tell us when you call so the technician comes ready for it.
- Smell gas: everyone out of the house first. From outside, call 911 and your gas company, DTE Gas for natural gas or your propane supplier, as DTE advises for any leak. If someone is unwell or a CO alarm is sounding, 911 comes first. Call us after it has been made safe.
- Power out: see whether the neighbors are out too and check DTE's outage map. Your furnace will not run until power is back, and a sump pump will not either.

Keeping a newer system healthy
Book a furnace tune-up in the fall, and have the technician check the condensate drain and pump while there. In spring, the A/C tune-up cleans the outdoor coil and checks the refrigerant. Keep the outdoor unit clear of mulch and bushes, and the furnace vent pipes clear of snow. A VIP plan covers both tune-ups and we call you when each is due.

Brownstown Township questions
- My address says Trenton (or Flat Rock), but I'm in Brownstown Township. Do you serve me?
- Yes. Brownstown has no ZIP code of its own, so township addresses use Flat Rock, Rockwood, Romulus, Trenton or Riverview ZIPs. We serve the whole township from our Monroe office, about 19 miles away.
- Water is dripping from under our furnace. What is that?
- On a high-efficiency furnace it is usually the condensate drain or its pump. A clog or a failed pump can also shut the furnace down. Turn the furnace off if water is pooling, and call us.
- Who is the gas company in Brownstown Township?
- DTE Gas supplies natural gas in the township, and DTE Electric supplies power. If you smell gas, leave the house and call 911 and DTE Gas from outside, then call us once it is safe.
