Heating and Cooling Service in Southgate, Michigan

Furnace, AC and water heater service for Southgate homes, from our Monroe, Michigan office.

Our technicians travel about 26 miles from our Monroe, Michigan office to reach Southgate homes.

Southgate's streets were platted starting in the 1920s, but most of the building waited until just after World War II. That makes it a city of post-war houses, and their furnaces and ducts show it. We cover Southgate from our Monroe office at 2020 South Custer Road, about 26 miles by road.

Call us for furnace, air conditioning and water heater repair or maintenance at (734) 384-3910. We are open 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week, and you can book online too.

Quick facts for Southgate

  • County: Wayne County.
  • ZIP code: 48195, which matches the city exactly.
  • Our office: Monroe, about 26 miles away.
  • Utilities: DTE Electric and DTE Gas. The city's own website links residents to DTE's outage reporting.

Built after the war

The 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey counts about 13,200 homes in Southgate, with a median build year of 1963. About 45 percent were built before 1960, many of them in the 1950s, and another 32 percent in the 1960s and 1970s. About seven in ten are single-family detached houses on city lots, and about a third of households rent.

Post-war houses were built with small, efficient duct systems for the furnaces of the day. Many have since added central air, finished a basement or put on an addition, all on the same ducts. The results we see most are rooms that run hot in summer, a furnace that cycles on and off quickly, and a return that is too small for the blower. Before you replace a furnace or air conditioner in a house like this, have the ducts checked too, so the new equipment is not fighting the old air path.

The water heater in a Southgate basement usually sits beside the furnace and often shares its flue. A tank that rumbles, leaves rust-colored water or runs out of hot water early is wearing out. We can flush it, repair it or replace it, and we check the venting either way, since a water heater that does not draft properly can spill exhaust into the basement.

If the heat or the gas is the problem

In Southgate about 83 percent of households heat with gas and nearly 14 percent with electricity. A small share use propane or other fuels.

  • A gas smell is a get-out situation. Leave the house with everyone, then call 911 and DTE Gas from outside, as DTE asks. If someone feels ill or a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, call 911 first. We can come out after DTE has made the house safe.
  • Heat off and lights off? When the whole block has lost power, report it to DTE and watch the outage map. The furnace will need power before it can run again.

Work we do in Southgate

Most Southgate calls are furnace repair, air conditioner repair and water heaters. We also handle furnace replacement, new air conditioning, heat pumps, boilers, duct cleaning and humidifiers and air cleaners.

Coleman is the brand we install. We repair Trane, Carrier, Goodman, Lennox and Rheem as well.

Maintenance for a post-war house

Schedule a furnace tune-up each fall and an A/C tune-up each spring. In a house with a small return, a clean filter matters more than usual: change it every month or two during heavy use. A VIP plan covers both tune-ups and we call when they are due.

Our prices

  • Repair or diagnostic visit: $99. The technician quotes the repair before doing it. The $99 covers the visit and diagnosis. VIP members pay no visit fee.
  • Tune-ups: $135 for the furnace and $135 for the A/C.
  • VIP plans: The 1-year VIP is $199, the 3-year VIP is $523, and the 5-year VIP is $846.

Our pricing page has every price.

Christian was great. Fair pricing, showed up same day and called to say he could come sooner as we were without AC. Diagnosed the problem, solved it and got us signed up for the annual maintenance plan for the AC/Furnace. Would highly recommend.

Southgate questions

We added a room onto our Southgate house and it never cools down. Why?
An addition is often tied into the old ducts with one small supply run and no return, so cool air goes in but has nowhere to come back. We can measure the airflow and tell you whether a return, a damper change or a separate system makes sense.
Is a furnace from the 1990s worth repairing?
Sometimes. It depends on what failed and the shape of the heat exchanger. We will tell you the repair price and what we saw, and if replacing makes more sense we say so plainly.
Do you serve Southgate from Monroe?
Yes, Southgate is about 26 miles from our Monroe office. The number to book is (734) 384-3910.
Our water heater rumbles. What does that mean?
Usually sediment on the bottom of the tank. A flush can help if the tank is not too far gone. If it is leaking or rusty at the base, replacement is the safer call, and we will tell you which one you are looking at.

We had Micheal come out and look at our furnace and were impressed! We recently had a new furnace put in by a different company and did not have a good experience… The other company basically left us dead in the water with a bill and a furnace that was over heating! Within minutes Michael had it diagnosed and fixed! Don’t go anywhere us trust me!

Jeremy did an outstanding job!!! He also gave me additional information about my installation from the company that installed my boiler. It has been leaking since they put it in, 3 years. They have been out several times without fixing the problem. Jeremy told me what they need to do to make it stop leaking!!!! I'm never calling anyone else for boiler maintenance and repair again.

I want to give a shout out to Complete Home Comfort. This company has gone above and beyond in servicing our heat and AC needs for many years. We just had our fall furnace service check and again, they did not disappoint. Bonus if you or spouse is a veteran. The annual service calls might as well be free. They are veteran owned. No price gouging or pressure sales of any kind. They are always very respectful of our home while working. Excellent service by people who are great at what they do and polite while they are doing it. A+ Rob and Shannon Bruley

Excellent customer service. Called them at 4 pm on a Friday. They said they could have a service tech out that night or first thing in the morning. Then I got a call about 10 mins later from the tech, saying they would be out in about 20 mins. Michael was informative and quick. Found the issue and fixed it in no time. Just great service all around!!

I had a great experience having this company out for the first time. We have lived in our house around Monroe for 4 years after we had it built and have yet to have the furnace looked at until now. Michael was very pleasant to talk to and he brought up a safety issue to me and then quickly corrected it at no cost. Even though it took him 30 seconds to fix it, he showed me what it was and just took care of it. He was very informative and because my wife is a veteran he explained to me their program for veterans and first responders. It is a wonderful program for these folks and he also told me to thank my wife for her service. Their furnace tune up special had ended but they did give me that price and that is much appreciated. I will definitely continue using this company and they are Veteran owned. If you are a veteran or first responder, I would definitely call and inquire about their maintenance program for veterans. I would like to say thank you for your service to their owner as well and to all U.S. veterans.

James from Complete Home Comfort was sent to my home in Newport, MI for a "Second Opinion," on a furnace repair. A week ago I contacted a local Monroe MI HVAC business who installed my brand new furnace in the latter part of October 2023. I was told by the technician doing the estimate repair order who is employed with the original installing company of my furnace that my furnace was no longer under warranty, that my warranty expired last year! The 2 parts were going to cost me with over $2200.00!! My original "Brand New" furnace with installation cost around $5,000.00. I was very concerned about the price and that a brand new furnace would need that costly of a repair and only 3 years old. I had done the biannual maintenance recommended with no noted issues so my gut told me call another local business for a second opinion. I am so glad I followed my gut because Complete Home Comfort had a technician at my Newport, MI within a couple of hours. James called on his way to my home, introduced himself when he came to the door. After my explanation of what my furnace was doing he got into looking at the problem. He found the other companies quoted estimate was misdiagnosed and the repair was way less. Extremely less! James also took the time to call the manufacturer of my furnace and it was never registered by the installing company which would have been a covered part if it had been registered. James was awesome, he had the replacement part on his truck and was able to have it replaced and running within minutes. I am so very happy with Comfort Home Care from my initial call earlier this morning to the repair today! I will highly recommend this business to family and friends. Hopefully I won't need it but if in the future I have problems with my furnace or central air unit, "Complete Home Care," will be the business I call . Thank you Complete Home Comfort for a job well done!

Dude showed up early, serviced my appliances, gave me some advice on how to prevent issues with my furnace and what to look for, he was friendly and professional and they sent the same guy who had been there a year ago, I like that. I only had to take an hr off of work and honestly, if I would have left as soon as he was done I would've been 15 mins behind, thats how straight to business he was about it. For service calls and stuff, being on the ball like that is so appreciated, I've lost full days waiting for cable guys and stuff like that. 10/10 would recommend.

They came out and not only replaced our furnace, hot water tank and air conditioner condenser, they replaced all lines, and repaired the unprofessional job from the previous owner. They worked all day and were great at what they do. I will recommend them to anyone.
